Peter Malmö is an adaptation of the novel "Pedro Páramo" written by the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo. The adapted story takes place in northern Wisconsin in a small rundown island that was once vital in the furniture making industry. Johnny arrives there looking for his father. He discovers his family's and the town’s past. Besides former residents, Johnny meets a newly arrived immigrant couple who is determined to revitalize the island. Peter Malmö takes the Mexican story of death, desolation and rebirth to a wintery cold Wisconsin home and continues to explore those themes.
